Dont's :
- Unacceptable items :
Yard waste, building materials, tires, large batteries, excessive cardboard*, oils/paints**, bulk items
- Please call or text a photo to our office if you're ever unsure about a particular item or the amount. We'd much rather someone call for clarification than items not being picked up.
- Lids should be nearly or actually closed for pickups so please don't overload the carts. Open lids fill with rainwater (extra tonnage we pay for) and overloaded carts often spill out garbage while being emptied. We will recommend adding a cart the first time or require it

* Dry cardboard doesn't break down very well in general and large amounts jam up our trucks. The blockage ultimately fills our trucks too quickly so we've implemented a weekly allotment ( 4-6 inches stacked/broken down max & cut into managable 2-3 ft pieces ) to ensure capacity for everyone's garbage within in a given area/route.
**Wet oils & paints must be mixed with either kitty litter or sawdust until it thickens/harden. Cans must be left beside trash bin once dried out for driver inspection before disposal.

* Weekly pickups are normally recommended with sign up but Bimonthly or Monthly pickups are also offered upon request

Bear Tips

1. EW offers standard 96-gallon trash carts but actual bear-proof carts can be found online or purchased from "Bearicuda". The photos below are popular options that we suggest trying out before spending ~$275 but there's no guarantee for success when you're dealing with hungry wildlife.

2. Now offering Bear-Proof Bins - Nature & wildlife are part of what makes mountain life so special but anyone that's dealt with bears getting into their trash knows it's an ongoing battle and they quickly wreak havoc! Due to the sheer number of bear calls in '25 we decided it was time to do something about this and after shopping around we found a bear-proof strap manufacturer that can be bolted onto standard trash bins ( shown in photo ). Starting in '26 customers will have the option to purchase preassembled bear-proof bins so call our office for more info ( this will initially start as a trial-run so supplies are limited ). We hope these new devices will alleviate stress for customers that constantly clean up messes after bear visits and more importantly provide an alternative option comparable to the heavy-duty bear bins but for ~1/3 of the price that more customers can afford.

2. Ratchet Straps are #1 choice & most popular ( secure much better than bungees & quickly/easily removed by our drivers ). We now sell straps for $10.
3. Ammonia or Pine Sol help mask garbage smells if you dump 1/2-1 cup inside trash cart ( avoid scented options like lemon, lavender, etc. )
-Foods with stronger smells ( seafood, leftover meats, etc. ) can be frozen until your pickup day to reduce scent especially during hotter months.

4. Please call our office before making any permanent alterations to our trash carts ( drilling holes, painting, etc. ). We normally have older/clean carts in stock that can be modified instead of damaging a newer model. No Knots!!
